1-For those who do not know you, can you quickly introduce yourself?
I am Damian O'Connor a.k.a. Big Damo. An Irish professional wrestler.
2-Can you talk about your first steps into this buisness, do you remember your first match?
-I remember a lot of my first match. A guy hit me in the ear so hard I went deaf for 4 days.
I started by researching schools in the UK. I travelled over from Ireland to do some NWA UK Hammerlock camps. I figured out a way to live and support myself in Scotland and trained with what I believed to be NWA Scotland at the time. I debuted in 2005 for SWA in Glasgow.
3-How did your parents react to you wanting to become a wrestler? And when did you know you wanted to be a wrestler?
-I knew I wanted to be a wrestler around 15/16. My parents didn't find out I was a wrestler until about 2 years into my career. I didn't want them to know until I was any good haha
They are big supporters of what I do now.
4-When you were a child, who was your favorite wrestler? And why? (If you remember why)
-There were so many. At first it was Sting and Ultimate Warrior in the late 80s early 90s. I was largely impressed by characters with flashy colour schemes.
As I got older I appreciated characters who were more realistic. Like Fit Finlay, Ken Shamrock and Stone Cold.
5-Who is your dream Partner/Opponent?
-I've been blessed that I have had two great partners in Scott Renwick and Joe Coffey. A dream Partner would probably be Dave Mastiff as we have similar mindsets, shapes and sizes.
A dream opponent would be Fit Finlay. He easily competed in various countries and eras by staying true to his own style. He could compete against anyone, regardless of size or weight and tear them apart.
6-Who gave you the most valuble advice?
-Robbie Brookside has given me the most valuable advice. He has influenced me more than anyone. In ring ability, character, promos. He covered so many areas I needed to work on. I would love to learn under him more.
7-What is your best memory in Wrestling? (as a fan and/or as a wrestler)
-As a fan probably the ending of WM14 or WM30. 30 may have been my favourite story. Daniel Bryan fighting the authority and against all odds becoming the Champion. It was like a movie.
8-Who or what motivate you to become champion?
-I think you have to walk into a company with a mindset that you want to be the champion. To be the best you can be. I want to reach my potential and will work hard to do so.
9-What are you thoughts on the Indies?
-The Indies are cyclical. They will rise and fall. Right now the Indies are doing great and the Internet is showcasing the very best around. All across the world the wrestling is really taking off.
10-What is your favorite match that you've been in?
-I don't have a specific favourite match but I really enjoy wrestling Joe Coffey and Rampage Brown.
11-Where would you like to wrestle? WWE or NJPW? Why?
-I would happily go to either company. They are the biggest companies in the world with the best talent and coaches. The best opportunity to develop as a performer to be the best you can
12-How do you see your future in the wrestling ? What are your goals?
-My future is to generally continue what im doing already. Keep building my brand. Keep working on my image and body. Keep asking advice from better wrestlers than myself. Keep pushing and pushing to improve. And my biggest goal of all is to have fun!
13-Who had the greatest influence/impact on your life?
-The biggest influence on my life is undoubtedly my parents. They grew up in the middle of a civil war, through the hardest conditions you can imagine. Yet they are fantastic and intelligent people who have supported me in every way.
14-Do you have anything ot say about the Super Strong Style 16 Tournament? What can we expect from this tournament?
-You can expect me to give it my all to take the victory. This will be a hard hitting, fast paced, anything goes tournament featuring some of the very best wrestlers in the world. My first round is against Tomasso Ciampa, and we are going to put on a hell of a show.
15-Are you proud of the wrestlers you've trained?
-Of course I am proud. Whether I've had the tiniest effect on their mindset or whether I've helped them from their first day, any success they have is an indication that I gave them the right advice!
There are so many of them who are doing great right now. They are doing me and their country (Scotland) very proud.
16-How do you feel when you see the wrestlers you've trained in the ring?
-I still feel like their coach! Even the ones who have been on shows for 5 years or more, like Joe Coffey or Nikki Storm, I still watch them and give them feedback if I can. It's getting harder and harder to see errors, so it shows they are improving massively. Seeing their growth has been awesome and soon they'll be giving me tips how to improve!
17-Do you think that one day we'll see them the greatest wrestling companies like WWE,NJPW,...?
-I will be more surprised if you don't see at least one of them make it to the top companies in the world. Joe Coffey, Nikki Storm, Mark Coffey, Joe Hendry, Viper, Jackie Polo, and so many others have the potential to do anything in wrestling.
Some of them have had try outs or have competed in Japan. They know what they need to do to get to that next level and I don't doubt they will.
